Interior design services

Do you dream of having a relaxed, elegant and pared-back home but don’t know where to start? Maybe there’s one tricky area that you just can’t get right? Or perhaps you have an idea in mind but are struggling to find the perfect furniture and accessories? Whatever your situation, my design services can help.

Using the skills, contacts and experience that I’ve built up through years as an interiors blogger and stylist, I’ll develop bespoke ideas that work for you, your budget and the way you like to live. I take a considered approach, looking beyond fleeting trends to craft simple, timeless and calming spaces where you can be happy and comfortable. Underpinning everything are my beliefs that good design is as much about the way a room makes you feel as the way it looks, and that the most enduring homes are a reflection of the personalities and stories of the people who live in them.

I offer two different options – a full-room package and a one-off consultation. Both can be done on site or as an e-design project depending on your location, and I cover the whole of the UK and the rest of Europe.

Full-room package

This is for those looking for help with a whole room and will provide you with a full design to implement yourself.

I’ll ask you to send me photos and measurements of your chosen room, and we’ll then arrange a consultation to discuss your needs, your personal style and what you like and don’t like about the existing space. Afterwards, I’ll put together a detailed PDF presenting a complete scheme that’s fully tailored to you, your budget and your lifestyle. This will include a concept and mood board, visual renderings showing how the finished room will look, a floorplan with a suggested layout, and a clickable shopping list of everything you need to turn the design into a reality.

Price: from £699, depending on room size

Hour-long consultation

If you don’t require a full room design but are looking for a bit of guidance, want to talk through ideas or need help troubleshooting a particular aspect (for example choosing colours, sourcing furniture or devising a layout), then a one-off hour-long consultation is for you. The time is yours to use however you want, and afterwards I’ll put together a follow-up document with personalised suggestions.

(Please note that one-off consultations are intended to provide general advice or to assist with specific decor dilemmas, and the price doesn’t include visual renderings, full concepts or floorplans.)

Price: £349

A neutral living and dining room in a renovated 1930s house, with Spanish Californian, Scandinavian and Japanese influences| E-design services | Abi Dare of These Four Walls

Warm minimalism and textural contrasts in an open-plan living and dining room

Created for a renovated 1930s house, this scheme combines the client’s love of Spanish Californian style with Scandinavian and Japanese influences. Earthy beiges and browns give a calming feel, with travertine, wood, metal, linen and wool creating layers of textural contrast. Minimalist and mid-century modern pieces sit alongside sculptural shapes to form a timeless and elegant aesthetic; there are also nods to the house’s age, including a 1938 ‘Little Petra’ chair. Mixing walnut with paler oak gives warmth and richness, while ensuring the spaces do not feel heavy or dark. Large rugs zone the dining and sitting areas, and statement pendant lights provide focal points above.

A tranquil nature-inspired bedroom in green and grey

This design was created for a client who wanted a restful, sophisticated bedroom incorporating the existing green and grey wall colours. I introduced natural materials in the form of oak, wool and linen, and added a focal point by offsetting a pale grey upholstered headboard against the dark wall behind. Black and charcoal-grey accents give structure and depth, and provide a cohesive thread across the various items of furniture and accessories. Snuggly textures, nature-inspired artwork and circular shapes soften the otherwise clean-lined scheme.

A soft beige living room with mid-century modern influences | E-design services | Abi Dare of These Four Walls

A soft beige living room with mid-century modern influences

Developed for a small yet bright living room, this calm and inviting scheme mixes subtle beiges and greys with sleek walnut pieces, gently warming the space without overwhelming it. Multi-purpose items make the most of the compact dimensions, including a side table that incorporates magazine storage and a footstool with a removable cushion that can double as a coffee table and extra seat. What’s more, the larger pieces are modular, meaning they can be adapted or extended to suit future homes. A large wool rug adds texture and cosiness, while clean lines and a hint of mid-century style are offset by recurring circle, curve and arch motifs.

A calm dressing room and snug | E-design services | Abi Dare of These Four Walls

A calm Japandi-inspired dressing room and snug

The brief for this project was to create a tranquil dressing room / snug for reading and getting ready. I used an airy yet soothing palette of pale green-grey, whitened oak, beige and charcoal grey, with a mix of Scandinavian and Japanese influences. A linen-covered chaise-longue provides the perfect spot for snuggling up with a book and coffee, and a wall-mounted shelving unit acts as storage and display space. Rounded legs and grooved fronts add understated touches of detail to the otherwise simple look, while cushions, throws, ceramics and art prints with natural textures and organic shapes bring a bit of the outside in to enhance the calming feel.

A sophisticated sitting area with a custom fireplace in a new-build home

The brief here was to turn one end of an open-plan ground floor into a sophisticated sitting area for relaxing and entertaining. As part of a new-build home, the space was light and bright but felt stark and lacked a focal point. I therefore created a bespoke hearth with an eco-friendly bioethanol fireplace, and incorporated a display shelf that can double as a side table when needed. The owner’s favourite colours, muted petrol blue and pale grey, form the basis of the scheme and are warmed by splashes of russet. Lamps and a large rug add cosiness, as well as zoning the sitting area within the wider space.

A contemporary studio apartment | E-design services | Abi Dare of These Four Walls

A contemporary studio apartment with multifunctional pieces

This scheme was developed for a studio apartment with high ceilings but a small footprint. Off-white walls make the space feel bigger than it is, and minimalist furniture creates a contemporary, pared-back feel. Curved accessories and lighting soften the look, while oak and terracotta accents add warmth. The dining area sits in a nook beneath a mezzanine and has no windows of its own, so rather than fight against the lack of natural light I enhanced the sense of cosiness with dark grey walls. The modular sofa and shelving unit fit perfectly but can be reconfigured and extended when the owner moves to a larger property. The basket and coffee table provide additional storage, and the pouf gives extra seating without cluttering up the space.

Testimonials

“Abi gave me the guidance and confidence to transform my bedroom into a space I adore! I’ve spent so much time and money in the past trying to create beautiful rooms, but never with the results I had hoped for. Abi designed a stunning scheme within my budget, and took time to understand my vision before working her magic. The process was so much fun, and the PDF she put together was stylish, professional and brought the whole thing to life. She even suggested all the products, so there was no agonising over what to buy! I spent less and achieved far better results than I could have done by myself, and I would highly recommend Abi’s services.”

Nikki, Bristol

“I would highly recommend Abi. For our living room, I provided a brief of what we needed from a practical perspective, as well as the type of furniture I liked and the colour theme I wanted. Abi took it all in and created magic. The design went beyond what I thought was ever possible: our home is very small so I thought we would be limited, but I was wrong. We absolutely love our living room and it’s now our favourite part of the house. I will definitely be using Abi’s services again, because she just gets it. She gets you, and she creates the most beautiful designs. Thank you again Abi for providing us with so much joy that we get to see and be part of every day!”

Triz (@theclinicalhome), Bristol

“This was the first time I had made use of a designer and I certainly picked the right one. From start to finish, Abi was attentive, friendly and professional. She listened to my needs regarding the space and came up with the perfect design that managed to be beautiful, functional and also within budget. I was hugely impressed with her styling and her ability to create separate zones in the room while ensuring it all flowed. I would highly recommend Abi!”

Mohsen, Bradford

“Abi helped me make my living room into a space I LOVE. Every time I walk in it makes me so happy and it’s all thanks to her amazing e-design service. She took the hassle out of scouring the shops / web for products and created a well thought-out, functional and stylish space. She listened to my long list of wishes on my tiny budget and gave me exactly what I wanted and more. Thank you Abi for helping me make my first flat a home – you are truly talented.”

A few snaps from the gorgeous @gubiofficial showro A few snaps from the gorgeous @gubiofficial showroom in London, which I visited during @clerkenwelldesignweek earlier this week. I missed the opening event for this last year, so it was great to finally have a look around in person. The light is stunning, as is GUBI's selection of contemporary and classic designs - including the sculptural and futuristic F300 lounge chair, first designed by Pierre Paulin in the 1960s and recently relaunched.

Eight years ago today. Carousel posts didn't exist Eight years ago today. Carousel posts didn't exist then so I'm using our anniversary as an excuse to share some of my favourite wedding photos.

I have so many happy memories from the day, but what I remember the most is all the laughter. And the funniest best men's (Chris had four!) speech I've ever heard. I wish we'd had a videographer just to capture that.

Anyway, thanks @small_round_things for the last eight years - and for the 13 before we actually got around to tying the knot!
